Inactivated vaccine, Avian salmonellosis, in injectable emulsion

COMPOSITION:
Inactivated Salmonella enteritidis; Inactivated Salmonella typhimurium . The main immunological property of this vaccine is the stimulation of the active immunity of future layer and breeder chicks against Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium . Hygienic and biosecurity measures, as well as good production practices and a proper or suitable prophylaxis, are important in programmes for controlling the reduction of the incidence of infection by Salmonella.

TARGET SPECIES:
Poultry (Hens: future layer and breeder chicks).

INDICATIONS FOR USE:
For active immunisation against Salmonella enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium in future layer and breeder chicks, for reducing the infection of internal organs by said microorganisms, as well as the reduction of intestinal colonisation and of faecal excretion and reduction of vertical transmission through ovaries. Duration of immunity: As of 28-33 weeks after the second vaccination (when birds are 45-50 weeks of age) a reduction of the invasion of internal organs, and of intestinal colonisation, and of lesions and symptoms was observed (in the case of S. typhimurium) as was a reduction of vertical transmission through ovaries.

DOSAGE:
Future layer and breeder chicks: 1 dose of 0.5 ml/bird.

ADMINISTRATION FORM AND ROUTE:
Intramuscular, in the breast. It is recommended that the ¬first dose be administered at the age of 10 weeks and a second dose be administered at 17 weeks of age.

ADVERSE REACTIONS:
A slight decrease in the general activity of vaccinated birds associated with the administration of the vaccine may appear; occasionally, moderate depression may occur (in about 7% of the birds), which has a maximum duration of 2 days. In addition, because the vaccine contains an adjuvant, a slight reaction may be seen at the inoculation site consisting of a swelling of less than 1 cm in diameter. It will disappear totally by 7 weeks post-vaccination without any need for treatment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE:
Use sterile material when administering. Administer the vaccine when it is at an ambient temperature of +15 to +25 °C. Shake well before and during use. Use the vaccine within 10 hours of opening the bottle. Do not administer other vaccines within 14 days before or after administering this product. The use of this vaccine may interfere with programmes for controlling Salmonella gallinarum/pullorum in that vaccinated birds may give false positive reactions in the agglutination tests used for detecting exposure to those infections.

OVERDOSE:
A slight decrease in the general activity of vaccinated birds associated with the administration of the vaccine may appear; occasionally, moderate depression may occur (in about 24% of the birds), which has a maximum duration of 3 days. In addition, because the vaccine contains an adjuvant, birds vaccinated with an overdose may display a moderate reaction at the inoculation site consisting of a swelling between 1 and 3 cm in diameter. It is no longer detectable by 8 weeks, and will disappear completely by 12 weeks post-vaccination without any need for treatment.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
The effects of administering this product once laying has started have not been investigated. Therefore, do not administer to birds that are laying. The rest period can be used, if believed convenient, in the case of moulting. This is the period in which the poultry are not producing.

SPECIAL WARNINGS:
